How Do You Meditate?

How do you quiet the mind? How do you meditate? How do you help yourself to feel peace? How do you know if you're doing it right? These questions are normal for a beginner. As long as you are practicing meditation every day, early in the morning, or in the evening, or both, you will eventually learn how to meditate. As long as you are making a vigilant effort to remain with the object of concentration during your meditation, you are doing the right thing. Concentration is the key that opens the door to meditation. When you concentrate, you are giving the mind something to do so that you can feel peace.

This meditation guide recommends that beginners always start with concentration. In the beginning, you may feel that you do not feel peace. But, as long as you are practicing everyday, it will come. While concentrating, you need to be reasonably disciplined and vigilant, while keeping your whole body relaxed. You will eventually begin to feel a momentum or flow of inner peace, and, with practice, you will simply understand how to maintain it through your concentration and breathing.

If you follow the meditation basics, you will soon discover for yourself—while you are concentrating—what you need to do to feel more peace and bliss, which is meditation. For example, you may get the feeling that if you just stare at the candle flame a little more diligently and breathe slower you will then feel the peace that you know you are about to feel.

How Do You Know If You're Doing It Right?

If you are practicing concentration to still your thoughts then you are doing it right. Beginners should always start with concentration. The real understanding begins when you start to feel peace, and then more peace. You will begin to discover your own secrets on how to feel that peace. Whichever technique you use, your mind must be made calm and quiet to experience meditation. And concentration is the best preface to the meditation-book.

How Do You Know When You’re Meditating?

When you are meditating properly, you will feel joy all over as if someone has given you some sort of gift. If you feel tension, then the way that you are meditating at that time is not meant for you. Your meditation is correct when you are feeling a spontaneous inner joy. You may also feel that your body is becoming very light. Another way to know if you have meditated properly is to take notice of how you feel afterwards. If you feel peaceful energy, more content, or a good feeling for people around you in a loving way, then you will know that you have meditated properly.

Meditation Tip #2: Learning to Meditate Is Like Growing a Tree

At first you plant the seed. The beginning steps of learning how to meditate are like planting and cultivating the seed for a tree. You can’t expect the tree to grow right away. However, if you are practicing every day, then what you are doing is planting the seed, which gradually grows into a little plant.

It is important to remember, however, that this precious little meditation tree that begins as a little plant can easily be trampled upon. With proper care, this plant will grow big and strong, but, until then, you have to be very careful. Many things can distract you and take you away from your daily practice. You need to be vigilant, determined and sincere. Once your tree grows stronger, there will be fewer and fewer things in life that will be able to trample on it or disrupt it and you will be able to meditate well every day.
