With a morning meditation, you are starting your day off in a positive way. You are starting your day with hope and freshness. Many negative experiences from the previous day are temporarily out of your memory. A morning meditation is the best way to start your day.

Morning Meditation Tips

It is best to meditate as soon as possible after you get up. Your morning meditation should be done before you start your daily activities. Do not read the newspaper, or do housework, etc. before your morning meditation. Other than a shower, simple exercises, reading spiritual books, and otherwise getting prepared for your morning meditation, the less activity you enter into before your morning meditation the better. Here is a simple list of morning meditation tips:

  • You should start your morning meditation before 6:30am.
  • Set a fixed time for your morning meditation and/or set a fixed time for your evening meditation. It is not necessary—unless you find it helpful—to have more than one fixed time for your daily meditation if you meditate more than once a day.
  • If you wish, you can try a few stretches or exercises before you begin your morning meditation.
  • If you are not accustomed to getting up early in the morning, try gradually going to bed earlier and gradually getting up earlier.
  • It is best to stay awake after your morning meditation. If you are seriously having trouble getting the proper amount of sleep, you can go back to sleep for a little while after your morning meditation. However, it is not good to sleep for too long.
  • If you are late for your morning meditation, you should meditate first thing after you get up. In addition, if you miss your morning meditation, or are late for it, then you should try to also meditate in the evening, if possible, later that day.
  • If, after your alarm goes off, you feel that you're not getting enough sleep and you should therefore continue to sleep rather than get out of bed for your morning meditation try telling yourself that what you need to do is go to bed earlier in the evening rather than sleep in in order to get more sleep.

Evening Is the Next Best Time For Meditation

The best thing is to meditate both in the morning and in the evening. However, if you’re not able to set a fixed time for a regular early morning meditation, you should definitely set a fixed time for regular evening meditation. For instance, if you work late into the evening every day (or most days) and are unable to start your days early every morning then you should meditate at night before you go to bed. It’s not as easy to meditate in the evening with the same kind of hope and freshness. However, the evening is the next best time to meditate because, at that time, the atmosphere is becoming calm and peaceful. People around you are preparing to rest, and this is conducive to meditation. You should meditate every day. And, according to this meditation guide, your regular daily meditation should either be an early morning meditation, an evening meditation, or both.
