What If You Can't Meditate? It's only a problem if you are skipping your meditation time or you are frequently late for it. If you are meditating every day at your regular time, even if you feel that you're unable to meditate, you are doing far more than you may realize. You should not be concerned with whether or not you experience peace or bliss during your meditation. What is important is that you meditate every day and make a reasonable effort (without straining) to remain with the object of concentration during your meditation practice. The proper way to meditate is not to try and achieve a certain experience but to be satisfied with whatever you receive. In fact, the less occupied you are with whether your meditation was good or bad the better. If you feel that you can’t meditate then you may need to ensure that you're valuing the meditation basics and asking yourself “what is meditation?”. Meditation is not tension. Meditation is not thinking. Meditation is not nervousness. Remember that the first step to meditation is to simply sit quietly at the meditation time you have set aside. That is all. A proper foundation for meditation is very important. Doing at least something everyday is far better than doing nothing at all. You have to feel that as long as you are doing at least something everyday you are making progress. The real achievement is to be there at your meditation time even if you do not feel up for it on certain days. Meditation Tip #5: Gradually Stop Drinking, Smoking and Using Recreational DrugsPurity is very important for progress with meditation. If you want to learn how to meditate and see good progress, drinking, smoking, and drugs should be cut down gradually until you have given them up. Meditation can easily help you to cut down and defeat these habits. If you can, meditate for a few seconds before your habit. The power of your meditation will fight against your bad habit. If you feel that you will have difficulty giving up any of these habits, the most important thing to remember is that you are meditating at your designated meditation time every day, regardless of your situation. Never think that you shouldn’t bother meditating. If you need to miss your meditation due to unavoidable circumstances then you should meditate some other time during the day. Always meditate at least once a day. The only true failure is to give up. You are never a failure as long as you are trying. One of the best things you can do is meet other people who meditate on a regular basis. There are meditation centers in many cities around the world that offer free meditation classes and free guided meditations. This is an excellent way to meet people. This meditation guide has numerous other meditation tips to help you learn how to meditate. |
